Polistes olivaceus paper wasp larvae and pupae are eaten on Reunion island. Wasp hunters include white Creole people. Locally collected nests are sold roadside. Larvae and pupae are also sold in supermarkets (imported from Madagascar and Vietnam).
Did the French colonists destroy edible insect cultures of Reunion Island (westernization??) … or did they rather adopt them?
Pictures are from my 2019 trip, making the most of a visa run.
